Sing and Dance in the Rain! Happiness is Not the Absence of Problems

Singin in the Rain 1952

“Sometimes life knocks you on your ass… get up, get up, get up!!! Happiness is not the absence of problems, it’s the ability to deal with them.” – Steve Maraboli, Life, the Truth, and Being Free

Go easy on yourself! It’s okay to mess up, it’s okay to make mistakes, it’s more than okay to eat foods that are not optimal, to miss a couple days of training, and to drink alcohol a little more than we should once in a while! Enjoy, indulge, but don’t let it stop you from the goals you have or from becoming the version of yourself you’d most like to be! You already have this best version inside of you, it is just a matter of “becoming”! If some of these things are keeping you from becoming the person you know you are, then realize it and make the necessary adjustments!

One thing that I think is very important in terms of progress with our physique standards, and with anything health-related (and in life in general) is to stop talking so much shit to our selves… especially our bodies! We all need to stop bashing our bodies! Stop saying how ugly it is, how weak you are in the bench or squat, or how your arms look! No doubt, we are harder on ourselves than anyone else is and that can be a good thing, but it can also be a bad thing if we let it, or give it that power to be! Your body and mind hear all of those threats and comments that you tell yourself. If you keep telling yourself that you are unworthy or weak, or that your arms are shaped poorly, it will continue to be the reality as you perceive it! Would you get anywhere in your work or schooling if you constantly tell yourself how incapable or inadequate you are, or how you will never get any clients, or how your business will never pick up? In this world, you get in return what you put out! We must learn to be able to dance and sing in the rain, just as we do in the sunshine!

We need to embrace the body we have! Yes, we may want to improve in certain areas, and there is no doubt we will, but we already are the best version of ourselves! We are always becoming! It’s already inside of us!

Testing football helmits in 1912“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” – Carl Rogers

“Drop the idea of becoming someone, because you are already a masterpiece. You cannot be improved. You have only to come to it, to know it, to realize it.” – Osho

For those of you who think you are’t making any progress (or that things always seem to be going against you). It isn’t about being perfect, but slow progress (even snail slow pace progression) IS progress! When it doesn’t seem like we are moving, we still are! Think about how much more you know, or are aware of now, than when you started! It might not feel like progress all of the time, but it is! I promise!

“The more you see yourself as what you’d like to become, and act as if what you want is already there, the more you’ll activate those dormant forces that will collaborate to transform your dream into your reality.” – Wayne W. Dyer

I can’t speak enough about positive thoughts and mental imagery! As you train (or with anything in life) see yourself, your physique, or the muscle you are targeting as you wish to be, and as you know it to be! It will happen if you put the work and effort in! Having this “proper mental attitude” is what separates those who succeed from those who fail! Remember, we must learn to be able to dance and sing in the rain, just as we do in the sun!

“Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.” – Mahatma Gandhi

If you really want to achieve something that is of great importance to you, you have to live it and not just want it. You have to “become the person capable“! You have to be willing to put in the work each and every day because it is that important to you and so much apart of you. Your thoughts, feelings, actions are all critical and help carry over to the next that will help take you further into the journey towards the path you see yourself living.

Forget about the perfect time or opportunity, it does not exist. Things will never be perfect. Stop waiting to have that certain thing that you think this will be the thing I need and then I can start. NO. Start now. As Arthur Ashe said, “To achieve greatness, start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.”

“Simple, profound truths are the realm of this Buddhist nun. Her message? The gift of happiness truly lies within our own hearts and minds. Gen Kelsang Nyema, exuding a peacefulness that immediately connects with the audience, starts by asking three questions: Are you having a good day? Why? Tomorrow, would you rather have a good day or a bad day? She teaches that we cannot put our happiness at the whim of other people and of circumstances. If we want to be happy, we have to “stop outsourcing our happiness to other people” and cultivate a source of inner peace.” – Gen Kelsang Nyema, Happiness is all in your mind
